How do I release the existing knob from the latch shaft so I can repaint the door?

A. To release the Weiser Lock GAC101Y you'll need to remove the door knob faceplate by gently inserting a small flathead screwdriver between the door and the faceplate. Beneath the faceplate you'll find a notch to insert the screwdriver head into. Insert the screwdriver into the notch and then push all the way down. This should release the knob from the latch and allow you to remove the door knob from the door.
